Longsheng is in the north of Guangxi Province to the south of Yuecheng Peak. It is part of the Guilin area and is the earliest county to be established in Southern China. This area has a dynamic mixture of
ethnic minorities
including the
Dong, Zhuang, Yao
and
Miao
ethnic groups.
The Longji Rice Terraces
You can also visit Longji (the renowned Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces). These terraces line the slope winding from the riverside to the mountaintops. The elevation ranges from 380m to 885m. A trip to the Longsheng Hot Spring is also recommended. It’s the perfect way to soothe any aching muscles from hiking and .the health benefits are famous. The Yao people even refer to the hot spring as containing ‘holy water.’
The Huaping National Natural Reserve is also nearby snd is renowned for its diverse landscape. The rolling hills, forests, mountain streams, springs, and waterfalls are home to many rare plants, animals and flowers.

This area is famous for its cultural diversity with 10 ethnic groups inhabiting the area. They are famous for their festivals, folk songs dancing. Each group has its unique styles of architecture, clothing and cuisine.
Mulan with Ladies from the Yao Minority Group
There are several famous ethnic villages, including Yinshui Dong Village, Jinzhu Zhuang Village, Baimian Yao Village and Huangluo Yao Village. The latter is known as “the First Village of Long Hair under Heaven”. The ladies from the Yao tribe are world famous for being in the Guinness Book of Records for the length of their hair! They can be seen washing their 4-foot long hair along the riverbanks.
