Moon Hill

Moon Hill is the symbol of Yangshuo and is famous throughout China. Most people rent a bicycle and cycle there, which takes about 40 minutes. There is a slower alternative route which allows you to follow some local trails and see some of the countryside as well as stopping at a small village called Long Tang. This is especially good if you want to get an idea of the rural lifestyle of the people here.

There are also other transport options if you don’t want to ride a bicycle including motorized rickshaws and mini-buses.

The cave or hole running through the hill is said to resemble the shape of the moon, hence its name. The hill is 380 metres high. Over 800 steps lead to the top which affords a truly stunning view of the Karst mountain landscape around Yangshuo. You can also get a good view of the arched gap or cave which is around 50 metres in height and width.

There are also several caves that open to the public nearby: New Water Caves, Black Buddha Cave and Dragon Cave.
