Yangshuo: Gaotian

Gaotian town is in Yangshuo county. The surrounding area is very popular among photographers and some truly stunning images have been captured from around this area. Gaotian is situated within the Moon Hill Scenic area where the Yulong and Jinbao Rivers meet. The two rivers join to make the Tianjia River which is a tributary of the Li River.

The karst mountains and farmland combine with the waterways to create an idyllic location ideal for taking wide angle landscape photos.

Most of these locations are to be found around Gongnong bridge which is located around 8km from Yangshuo town. To get there you can take a bus from the town bus station going towards Lipu or Gaotian itself and then get off at the bridge.

The bridge is a famous spot from which to capture the sunrise and sunset over the river and peaks.

Another popular spot is near Jiwodu village. This is easy to get to. Instead of stopping at the bridge, continue for roughly around 100 metres. You should then take a left turn and carry on for about 250 metres. You can also find many great photographic locations on the banks of the Tianjia river. You can walk along the north bank of the river until you get the best view of Camel Hill. The views from here have been captured in several famous photographs. The silhouette of the mountains in front of the rising sun creates a particularly impressive image.
