YangshuoYangshuo is 65 kilometers southeast of Guilin Its limestone karst mountains, beautiful rivers and lush countryside have made it famous throughout China and the world. Its landscape has been the inspiration and subject for many poets and artists for thousands of years. The local customs and different Ethnic Minorities also make it a very culturally diverse place.
Its idyllic location by the Li River has led to it being known as a paradise under heaven among Chinese people. The area is also famous for Moon Hill as well as its many rivers. It has also become a popular destination for backpackers since the 1980s as well attracting cyclists and rock climbers. This has led to the town becoming a centre for studying English with over 20 private schools. West Street in Yangshuo is lined with a cosmopolitan mix of shops, cafes and bars which complement the town’s traditional feel. The town has a rich cultural history going back over 1400 years. Cuisine from around the world is available here as well as some local specialties such as beer fish. Travelling to Yangshuo is easy. You can go by bus from the city (1 hour and 20 minutes) or take a boat cruise which takes 4-5 hours. The climate in the area is subtropical, so the weather is good for most of the year.
Main Attractions
West Street.
Also known as Xi Jie, this famous street runs through the heart of the town from the Li River. It's lined with traditional buildings housing shops, hotels, bars and cafes. Many people shop fo souvenirs here.
Moon Hill.
It is the symbol of the area and is a popular place to cycle to and climb. Over 800 steps lead to a fantastic view of the karst mountain landscape from the top.
The Big Banyan Tree.
Over one thousand years old and often a popular attraction for tourists also on their way to Moon Hill. The tree lies near the Yulong River in a scenic location.
The Li River.
Take the 4 and a half hour Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo and pass by a stunning array of Karst mountains. You can also take the two hour boat trip from Xinping to Yangdi which is said to be the most beautiful stretch of the Li River.
Impressions Light Show.
This famous show uses the Li River and the surrounding mountains as a beautiful outdoor theatre. The show was created by Ang Yimou who also directed the famous 2002 movie 'Hero.'
Xingping.
The town is famous for the view across the Li River which also appears on the 20 RMB note.There is a fishing village nearby and many hiking trails outside of the town.
Fuli.
The town is famous for manufacturing fans and also a popular destination for cyclists. It's over 800 years old and situated in a scenic spot next to the Li River.Yangshuo Attractions:
